Sustainability at NORDWEST
Responsibility for the future

NORDWEST Handel AG strives for a sustainable and environmentally friendly orientation. We want to do our part, take responsibility and operate sustainably with the resources available to us. Our goal to continue to take more and more steps in this direction within our own organisation. After all, sustainability impacts ecology, economy and social issues – and thus virtually all areas of our life and business.

Measures taken
at the company site in Dortmund

  • Our headquarters are in good shape in terms of energy efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions and have been climate-neutral since 2022 thanks to green electricity
  • The building is supplied by a highly efficient combined heat, power and refrigeration plant.
  • Surplus electricity is fed into the public grid.
  • We have procured further plug-in hybrid company cars and an electric vehicle for our caretaking services
  • A total of around 60 charging points have been installed for electric vehicles in the company car fleet.
  • Improvement in the disposal of recyclable materials (waste) in accordance with the German Commercial Waste Ordinance with an improved separation of recyclable materials
  • “Green Dot” environmental certificate for our conservation efforts in the recycling of sales packaging
  • Recycling service for the paper towels produced in the restrooms
  • For every new trade partner, NORDWEST plants a tree and establishes another mixed forest
  • Ecology and nature conservation: NORDWEST has been home to four bee colonies on the premises since spring 2023

Our new central warehouse in Alsfeld will be sustainable

We are also implementing a wide range of sustainability measures to accompany the construction of our new central warehouse in Alsfeld: from photovoltaic systems, heat pumps and the optimal integration of the building into the landscape to the reduction of carbon emissions through efficient technology.

The Supply Chain Act

Compliance with human rights and environmental standards in the supply chain are naturally also factors that support sustainability. We are setting a good example and, with the support of TÜV Rheinland Consulting GmbH, are gradually implementing our due diligence obligations in accordance with the Supply Chain Act (LkSG), even though we are not yet legally obliged to do so. We also offer you an exclusive service that helps you to proactively meet your obligations.

  • With the help of artificial intelligence and machine learning, we analyse millions of data for relevant threats in the supply network.

  • We also provide appropriate tools to assess the extent of any damage and to prevent or minimise the risk of damage before it occurs.

  • Time-saving, uncomplicated, transparent and cost-effective solution for compliance with the Supply Chain Act (LkSG)

  • In this way, you contribute to improving the international human rights situation.
